Welsh athletes off to a flying start in Paralympics
Gold for swimmers and cyclists on day one
Welsh athletes have made a flying start to the Paralympics, winning two gold medals on the opening day of competition in Tokyo.
Swimmer David Roberts won gold in the men's S10 100m freestyle, while cyclist James Ball won gold in the men's C2 time trial.
Roberts' victory
Roberts, from Cardiff, won his gold medal in a time of 53.33 seconds, ahead of Ukraine's Maksym Krypak and Italy's Antonio Fantin.
It was Roberts' second Paralympic gold medal, having also won the S10 50m freestyle in Rio 2016.
Ball's victory
Ball, from Newport, won his gold medal in a time of 37 minutes and 48.45 seconds, ahead of Spain's Ricardo Ten Argiles and Poland's Marcin Polak.
It was Ball's first Paralympic gold medal, having won silver in the C3 time trial in Rio 2016.
Other Welsh medalists
Other Welsh athletes who won medals on day one of the Paralympics included: - Aled Davies, silver in the men's F42 discus - Olivia Breen, bronze in the women's T38 100m - Lauren Rowles, bronze in the women's H5 rowing single sculls
Great start for Wales
The Welsh team's performance on day one of the Paralympics was a great start for the country, and they will be hoping to continue their success in the coming days.
The Paralympics are the world's largest sporting event for athletes with disabilities, and they are held every four years.
The Tokyo Paralympics are taking place from August 24th to September 5th, 2021.
