Kanpur Pitch Issue: BCCI Vice President Raises Concerns, Holds Detailed Discussion with Pitch Curator

Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Rajeev Shukla has raised concerns over the condition of the Green Park pitch in Kanpur, leading to a lengthy discussion with the venue's pitch curator.

Shukla expressed his dissatisfaction with the pitch's excessive grass cover, which made it difficult for batters to score runs during the recent India vs. New Zealand Test match, resulting in a draw.

Shukla stated that the pitch did not provide an equal balance between bat and ball, particularly in the first innings, when New Zealand was bowled out for a mere 296 runs. He emphasized that the pitch should be prepared to allow for a fair contest between the two teams.

In response, the pitch curator explained the challenges faced in preparing the wicket, citing factors such as the weather and the type of soil. However, Shukla remained firm in his stance, urging the curator to take necessary measures to ensure a better quality pitch for future matches.

The Green Park pitch has been a subject of debate in the past, with critics arguing that its excessive grass cover favors swing bowlers and makes it difficult for batsmen to score runs. Shukla's intervention highlights the BCCI's commitment to maintaining high standards for cricket pitches in India.

It is expected that the pitch curator will take Shukla's concerns into consideration and work towards improving the quality of the Green Park pitch for upcoming matches.
