UCLA Admitted Freshman Statistics: GPAs Galore

GPA Landscape

The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) meticulously tracks the GPAs of admitted freshman students. These statistics provide valuable insights into the academic profile of the incoming class and can serve as a general guide for prospective students. It's crucial to emphasize that these statistics should not be interpreted as absolute predictors of admission.

Middle 25 - 75 Percentile GPA

For the admitted freshman class of Fall 2019, the middle 50% of students had GPAs ranging from 3.93 to 4.29. This means that half of the admitted students had GPAs within this range.

Weighted and Unweighted GPAs

UCLA considers both weighted and unweighted GPAs in the admission process. Weighted GPAs include additional points for honors courses, while unweighted GPAs do not. The fully weighted GPA includes one extra grade point for all UC-approved honors courses, including Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), school-based honors, and transferable college courses with a grade of C or higher.

GPA and SAT Correlation

For students with GPAs at or below the school average of 3.93, a higher SAT score can compensate for a lower GPA. This indicates that UCLA values a strong overall academic performance, considering both high school coursework and standardized test scores.

Selectivity and Admissions

UCLA's acceptance rate of 12.4% reflects its highly selective nature. The university attracts a large pool of highly qualified applicants, making admission competitive. The GPA statistics provide a snapshot of the academic qualifications of admitted students, but they should not be used as a sole indicator of admission chances.

It's important for prospective students to focus on achieving their highest possible GPA while also engaging in extracurricular activities and developing well-rounded profiles. Admission to UCLA is a holistic process that considers a variety of factors beyond GPA alone.
